What is TUDCA?

TUDCA, or tauroursodeoxycholic acid, is a water-soluble bile acid that is naturally produced in the body. It is very similar to the prescription drug UDCA used in medical settings, but has a Taurine molecule bound to it which actually improves it's bioavailability! There is a range of research showing TUDCA's efficacy and function compared to UDCA which you can read about at this article here.

It is known for its liver-protective properties and its ability to support overall liver health. A primary mechanism is it's ability to flush out inferior bile salts which may cause issues such as blocking in bile ducts and the liver. In itself TUDCA performs the role of a bile salt extremely well by it's polar structure, making for effective emulsification of fats and other nutrients for digestion. TUDCA has also been studied for its potential benefits in promoting healthy cholesterol levels, liver health, reducing inflammation, as well as a number of anti-aging and cognitive protecting function.

Standalone TUDCA Supplements

Strom Sports Nutrition 500mg TUDCA Supplement

Our own Strom Sports Nutrition TUDCA is 500mg per capsule and comes in a bulk quantity of 100 capsules per bottle. The upfront cost is understandably expensive, but cost per gram of TUDCA comparatively cheaper due to purchasing in bulk. This is a product for those that know they respond well to TUDCA and intend to use it in quantity for an extended period of time. Great value for money, however you'll want to know TUDCA is right for you before purchasing.

Leviathan Nutrition 300mg TUDCA Supplement

Leviathan Nutrition's 300mg TUDCA supplement is a top choice for those who have not yet tried TUDCA as a standalone ingredient and want to evaluate it's value for themselves. Coming at a lower 300mg dose and just 60 capsules per bottle, the upfront cost is significantly cheaper than our Strom option, so a great pick for TUDCA first timers. You can be additionally reassured with the Leviathan TUDCA as every batch is Third Party Tested, of which you can see the latest results on the product page images. Higher cost per gram than our Strom option, but a better choice if you want to try TUDCA for the first time in case you have any intolerance to it.

TUDCA supplements in multi-ingredient stacks

Supplement Needs TUDCA + NAC Supplement

Supplement Needs provides a TUDCA supplement that includes 750mg TUDCA and 900mg NAC per serve, 30 serves in the tub. Good if you are wanting to supplement with both TUDCA and NAC, but comes with at a price that you would expect from the stack. It's a convenience thing, you can also just buy the two separately. We have less quality assurance on the purity of the TUDCA with Supplement Needs.

In our own general On-cycle-support product we also include 250mg TUDCA per serve, using the same high quality raw as in the standalone TUDCA product. The formula is as follows:

TBJP Vital Support Supplement including TUDCA

Trained by JP provides a TUDCA supplement included in a stack of other health products, much like our own Strom OCS. It includes

• Astragalus (4000mg)
• N Acetyl Cysteine (1200mg)
• IP6 (1000mg)
• TUDCA (500mg)
• Pine Bark Extract (60mg)

30 serves in the tub. It is a popular supplement used by many and reportedly gets good bloodwork results, although not a formula ethos we personally agree with. We  also have less quality assurance on the purity of the TUDCA with TBJP uses. We have this available by popular demand to provide options, but it is not our first pick.

Why not to cheap out on TUDCA

Ultimately the choice is yours, but we do encourage you to prioritise assured quality sourcing first. TUDCA is an expensive ingredient, and as such many manufacturers are falsely advertising generic bile salts or low TUDCA yield raws as a TUDCA ingredient. As an ingredient, it is probably one with the highest rate of falsification, just look at the cheap "deals" on iHerb or Amazon and you'll see dozens that are seemingly bargains. Time and time again these are tested to be no more than generic bile salts.
